Notice of review of polling districts and polling places

Oct 7, 2019

In accordance with the Electoral Registration and Administration Act 2013, Lichfield District Council is conducting a review of its polling districts and polling places.

The review is to seek to ensure that all electors in Lichfield District have such reasonable facilities for voting as are practicable in the circumstances and that so far, as is reasonable and practicable, the polling places are accessible to all electors, including those who are disabled.

A summary of the current Polling Districts and Polling Places is available at

The Acting Returning Officer for the Lichfield Constituency will make a comment on proposed polling stations and her comments will be published on the website shortly.

Electors within the two constituencies of Lichfield and Tamworth may make representations, as can the Acting Returning Officer for the Tamworth Constituency, political parties, parish councils, representatives or users of polling place venues etc.

The Council would particularly welcome any person or body with expertise in access for persons with any type of disability to make a representation or to comment on proposals.

Representations can be made online at If you need assistance in completing an online form please do telephone 01543 308000.

Objecting to a Polling Place

If submissions are objecting to the use of a particular Polling Place, it would be helpful if an alternative venue is suggested.

In making suggestions for alternative venues, respondents should bear in mind:

The council is obliged to ensure that all electors have such reasonable facilities for voting as are practicable in the circumstances, which are accessible to those with disabilities.

Wherever possible the Polling Place should be in its own Polling District.

Criteria For Selecting Polling Places

The Council will consider the following criteria for selecting Polling Places:

  • Must be available for elections between 6.30am and 10.30pm and that the council has priority for bookings for elections.
  • Each polling station to have no more than 1000 voters. So a polling district with, say, 1800 voters, would need a polling place that could accommodate 2 polling stations.
  • Proximity to voters<
  • Accessible for all, including those with mobility or sensory difficulties
  • Safe, warm and well-lit
  • Cost
  • Permanent buildings are preferred but mobile polling stations can be utilised but only as a last resort.

Key dates

The review will commence on 4 October 2019 and any representations must be received by 11pm on 14 November 2019.

The findings of the Review will be considered by the Regulatory and Licensing Committee at its meeting on 26 November 2019. The Committee will make its recommendations to Full Council on 10 December 2019, when the new polling districts and polling places will be approved.

The outcome of the review will be published on the website.
