Village News 27th June 2019

• Alrewas Open Gardens is this weekend. There will be 26 venues open between 1pm and 6pm including over 15 beautiful gardens to visit, plant and craft sales, activities and exhibitions throughout the village. There is a children’s competition with entry forms available at the gardens and the children have at school been designing flags which will be displayed in the gardens.

Entry is by programme. These are £5, under 16’s free with an accompanying adult, available from The Bank Coffeehouse from Wednesday and from the car park on Walkfield and at most venues over the weekend

• An A5 flyer will be dropping through your door over the next week from the Parish Council in association with the Police and Alrewas Residents Group giving information about the new development north of Dark Lane and dealing with anti-social behaviour, so please look out for it.

• Alrewas residents have complained for many years about speeding traffic in the village so last year the Parish Council decided to join the Speed Watch initiative where volunteers are trained to use speed devices and offer a small amount of time each month to stand in strategic places in the village to catch anyone speeding. To date, however there have been only two volunteers so the Parish Council is having one more attempt at appealing for anyone who may be interested before laying the idea to rest for now. Please contact the Clerk on 01283 792293 or email

• There are still tickets left for Alrewas Dramatic Society’s latest production, two hilarious one act plays by David Tristram about an am-dram society in trouble this Thursday to Saturday 8pm each night. Their plays are always well worth watching. It is expensive to lay on a production and numbers are low at the moment so please support them so they can continue to provide entertainment for years to come.

Tickets are £7.50, £6.00 concessions, available from The Bank Coffeehouse and Alrewas Pharmacy.

• Alrewas Village Hall AGM is on Monday 1st July at 7.30pm. All are welcome.

• The Bank Coffeehouse’s monthly Pop-In in conjunction with Alrewas Surgery's Patient Participation Group is this Wednesday 3rd July between 9 and 10.30am.  If you fancy some company and a chat, do go along and sit at one of the meet-up tables. It’s fine to go on your own and is a great opportunity to share interests and experiences over a cuppa.

The Drop In at the Methodist Church Hall from 2pm every Monday also provides an opportunity to meet people for a chat and refreshments.

And for anyone with Dementia or related illnesses and their carers do go along to the coffee mornings at the British Legion on the first and third Tuesday of each month,
10-30 am to 12-30 pm. A very warm welcome will be given to all and it is a chance for you to relax and to talk and to get support. Call Maureen on 01283 790381 for more information
