• Speedwatch training for anyone wishing to volunteer to help conduct speed checks in this village or the surrounding area is this Saturday in the Village Hall. Please contact Jan Altham on 01283 791520 if you wish to attend. Once trained volunteers will record details of speeding vehicles at the side of the road and submit their findings to the Police. Warning letters from the Police will then be sent to drivers pointing out the dangers of speeding. If a repeat offender is identified then an escalation process is put in place.

• The cricket season starts next week with the first home league game on Saturday 20th April. Spectators are always welcome, the bar is open from 2pm.

Kwik Cricket, the Club’s introductory cricket programme for boys and girls aged 6-9 starts on Mondays 6.00 to 7.00pm from 29th April. Due to increasing numbers, we would welcome additional volunteers to help us run these Monday night sessions. Parents or teenagers looking for D of E or Young Leaders accreditation would be ideal, please contact Tim Aston on 07866 730887 or timaston@needwoodcottage.go-plus.net

After their success in the Paulet Indoor League, the girls section goes from strength to strength. Any girls in school years 4-8 are welcome to join the Club’s girls only section. Weekly training sessions are held at Walkfield on Thursdays from 5.30 - 6.30pm starting 11th April. Just turn up or contact James Mitchell on 07756 481654 or alrewasroses@gmail.com

The next Cricket Club Quiz is on Sunday 6th May, 7.00 for 7.30pm start. This is a fun General Knowledge quiz for all the family. Entry is £10 entry per team of 4, which includes a light buffet. These events are always very popular so please book your table in advance through Andie Oliver on 07740 088590 or andieo@icloud.com

• Last week a vigilant resident rang 101 to report a vehicle in the village that had young lads in and smelt of cannabis. The Police attended, searched a vehicle and cannabis was seized. They urge all residents to pick up the phone and call 101 rather than comment on Facebook so that action can be taken.

• All residents are warmly welcome to the village hall this Monday evening from 7pm to find out what is going on in your village, particularly if you are concerned about all the housing developments. There will be refreshments and the opportunity to chat with Parish and District Councillors. At 7.30pm Chairman Dave Whatton will give a review of the year and news on current issues, followed by short presentations by village groups including The Cricket Club, Civic Society and Arts Festival Committee.

• The Alrewas Show committee is looking for six new ‘Alrewas Ambassadors’ aged between 5 and 18 who will represent the Alrewas Show at local events for the next 12 months, starting with this year’s Show on Saturday 20th July. Application forms can be downloaded from www.alrewasshow.co.uk and need to be dropped into All Saint’s School by this weekend.
