•  Alrewas Tennis Club have been awarded a grant of £475 by Lichfield District Council to go towards the cost of installing lights on the footpath from the Cricket Club car park to the tennis courts, and for extending CCTV coverage to add cameras to the floodlight posts. The courts are now open every evening, it’s just £5 to play and membership is free. Go to www.alrewastennis.net. Social tennis is every Wednesday 6-8pm, all are welcome, you can just turn up and join in.

• There was an excellent turnout for the first Alrewas litter pick on 5th January. Over 20 residents turned up to help clean up the village and were treated to a free coffee at The Bank afterwards. If you were unable to make it but would like to help next time please contact Mike on 01283 791322.

• Last week Michael Fabricant asked the Prime Minister whether the existing freight line between Lichfield Trent Valley station and Burton could be upgraded to relieve congestion on the busy A38 trunk road.

Commenting afterwards Michael said “Stations could be added to serve Alrewas and the National Memorial Arboretum, Fradley and Barton under Needwood.  They would provide a direct connection with Birmingham and beyond on the cross-city line.  Commuters to Birmingham from as far afield as Derby would no longer need to use the congested A38. I have already discussed this matter with Chris Grayling the Transport Secretary and with the managing director of West Midlands Trains.  I now hope that the Metro Mayor of the West Midlands, the local enterprise partnerships and Midland Connect will all work together with local authorities to see this much needed upgrade happen.“

• Alrewas & Fradley Charities wish to thank all who supported, donated and attended the Charity Banquet at the Delhi Divan last week. It raised £947. Mari-V Gomez spoke movingly about how Alrewas and Fradley Charities had helped her family recently. It is one of the many donations the Charity has made this last year. If you know of any good causes or individuals that need support or if you would like to make a donation please email info@alrewasandfradleycharities.org.uk
