Village News 3rd January 2019

• Alrewas resident and District Councillor Mike Wilcox is launching a new litter picking initiative this Saturday 5th January and is looking for volunteers to join him to help litter pick for a couple of hours, finishing with a free hot drink at The Bank Coffeehouse. The District Council will provide the litter picking equipment and fluorescent jackets to keep everyone safe. Mike thought it would be a great opportunity to burn off those extra pounds put on over the festive season combining a walk around the Village collecting litter. If you would like to help him keep our village tidy please meet outside the Doctor's Surgery on Exchange Road at 10.00am. For further information call 01283 791322.

• Alrewas Cricket Club are looking to serve the growing interest in women’s cricket by building a cricket pathway for girls. Unlike some other sports, women and girls can play cricket in the same teams as men and boys. However, to encourage participation, the Club has introduced a number of female only teams. Ages 8-11 years can join 6-a-side kwik cricket with tournaments on Sunday afternoons, 10-13 years will play 8-a-side incrediball cricket with matches on Tuesday evenings and from age 14 upwards and for adult women there will be 8-a-side softball cricket with around four Sunday afternoon tournaments. Starting next week winter indoor practice for the girls takes place on Tuesday evenings in John Taylor sports hall 7-8pm, all are welcome to turn up.

The Club is also keen to expand their junior teams. For boys in years 3 to 8 indoor practice  at John Taylor is Thursday evenings 6-7pm and new players would be very welcome.

• There is a new library scheme where volunteers visit elderly or isolated people who can’t get out to have a chat and change library books for them. If anyone can spare a little time to do this please pop into Barton library and you will be warmly welcomed.
