• It’s a big Jubilee weekend ahead in Alrewas kicking off with the lighting of the Jubilee ‘beacon’ on Alrewas Island from 9pm tonight, Thursday 2nd, with the first performance of the Alrewas Jubilee Choir. On Friday there is a day of stalls and activities on the Island 11am until 4pm organised by the Arts Festival team and in the evening there is entertainment at the Crown Inn, the William IV, the British Legion and the Bank Coffeehouse (check out their respective Facebook pages). On Saturday it’s the Jubilee Bake Off at Alrewas Cricket Club. Take your cake along any time from 2pm, judging will be at 4pm, then they will be cut and sold for the winners chosen charity. A street market is being held at the British Legion on Saturday afternoon 1-5pm.

On Sunday it’s the Big Jubilee Lunch. Everyone is welcome to take tables, chairs and food to Main Street and set up along the road, which will be closed from 11am to 3pm between the shops and the George & Dragon. Marshals will assist you. There will be street entertainment including the Rikneld Rabble morris dancers, Donna and Dave acoustic duo, table magic from Freddy Gvmagic and of course the Jubilee Choir. Alrewas Co-op are laying on children's activities 

Peter Ralley and the Archive team will be photographing and filming this momentous and historic week. They are asking residents to take lots of photographs (landscape preferred) of the Jubilee Celebrations and send them to the Archives via Facebook or email to be part of Alrewas Archives which will be a lasting record of these coming few days.

•  All the big Alrewas village events are back this year after two years of cancellations due to Covid. Open Gardens Weekend is 2nd and 3rd July 1-6pm both days, the Alrewas Show is Saturday 16th July (details at and the Alrewas Arts Festival is 20th to 27th August.

There is a Drop-in on Sunday 12th June 2-4pm for Festival volunteers or anyone who would like to be.

• At the Parish Council meeting Gail Adams was co-opted as the new Councillor.

There were concerns over the increase on planning applications for building houses in back gardens and the impact that infill would have on traffic and parking along Main Street, loss of trees and pressure on the infrastructure of the village. Two such applications have been called in to the LDC planning committee

The Environment working group has obtained a grant from the Transforming the Trent Valley (TTTV) organisation for the garden project on Deepmore Close. This, in addition to a grant from the SCC Climate Change Fund and funds from the Parish Council CIL fund will now enable the hard landscaping to commence and the project to begin. Residents who would like to be a part of its development are being encouraged to join the Friends of the Jubilee Garden. Please contact Jess at for further information

Companies whose lorries break the weight limit on Main Street are being contacted following an increase in heavy lorries travelling down Main Street.

Proposals to improve the footpath between Walkfield and Bagnalls lock were approved
