•  There will be a grand Firework display this Saturday at 7pm from Alrewas Island, free to residents of Alrewas, made possible by generous donations from businesses, groups and individuals in the village. It can be viewed from Church Road by the Millstream where there will be a hog roast and hot dogs for sale, and also from the field behind the canal. People viewing from the canal towpath do so at their own risk.

• At the October Parish Council meeting Stuart Threlfall was co-opted on as the new Councillor to replace John Pegg who recently retired. Stuart has been working closely with the Parish Council over the past three years fighting the Cemex quarry and concrete factory application. A general maintenance person has also been appointed.

Cllr Wilcox reported that the LDC Planning Committee had taken into account the concerns expressed by the Parish Council and residents about the development at Green Acres and unanimously rejected the LDC Planning Officers’ recommendations in respect of the larger housing mix and the drainage plans. However this is all likely to extend the build by many months. He confirmed it will not be possible to make any further progress on drainage concerns as all statutory bodies had reported that they were satisfied with proposals.

Work is now required to ensure LDC Planning Officers hold Crest Nicholson to the agreed planning conditions. Thanks were given to the ARG, Civic Society and residents who had contributed information to the LDC Planning Committee

A resident had put in a notice of judicial review on the Cemex application recently approved for extensive quarrying and a concrete factory at Orgreave, but funding would be required to take the review forward. It is hoped to meet with SCC Planning Officers to see if mitigation can be applied and if any application from Cemex for HS2 Phase 2 can be stopped.

•  The Remembrance Day Service will take place at All Saint’s Church on Sunday 14th November at 10.45 to remember those who served our country.

Due to restrictions that the National Royal British Legion have imposed this year it has become difficult for Alrewas British Legion to organise the Remembrance Day Parade without the necessary public liability insurance so it is looking like it may not go ahead. The Parish Council have been unable to offer insurance on their behalf without fully organising the event themselves, however will work with the branch to ensure there is one next year.
