• At the Alrewas Cricket Club end of season awards Vice Chairman Gareth Moss began the presentations with ‘Every single player in this club should be proud’. This season the 1st XI team were promoted to an ECB premier league for the first time in the club’s history as well as winning the prestigious Marston’s Smooth trophy. The 2nd XI won the League and were promoted to Division 3. The 3rd XI team just missed promotion and captain Loz Cousins was commended for bringing on so many youngsters into adult cricket.

The women’s section has become a big part of the club, winning their Staffordshire East league in their first year of hardball and encouraging many girls and women of all ages into cricket

And it wasn’t just the players that were recognised. The cricket ground is the envy of local clubs and thanks were given to Phil Wooley, Tim Aston and Bob Owen for the huge amount of work they put in

The presentations ended with Chairman Philip Hodgkinson raising a glass to last year’s Chairman Andie Oliver, who was greatly missed on this special night of celebration for the Club.

• Due to Covid still being an issue and the strict rules they continue to adhere to, the 1st Alrewas Scout Group will not be running a village bonfire on Walkfield this year. Alrewas Island are keen to provide a firework display for the villagers but, as is will not be possible to charge an entry fee as it would have to be viewed from off the Island for insurance reasons, they are in need of funds to lay it on. Some donations have already been pledged and there will be a bucket at the Bank Coffeehouse if anyone would like to contribute and hopefully raise enough to lay on an impressive 15 minute display for all to enjoy.

• Dementia friendly coffee mornings have begun again at the British Legion Club, 10.30am on the first and third Tuesday each month. Anyone affected by Dementia or related illnesses is warmly welcome. Call Maureen on 01283 790381 for further information.

• This year the Rev’d John Allan has been vicar of All Saint’s Church for 20 years and has made an outstanding contribution to the village community during that time. Other things that were new to the village this year 20 years ago include the winding hole on the canal by Walkfield, the bus shelter on Fox Lane and the wrought iron gates at the village hall.
