Village News 26th August 2021

• At the August Parish Council meeting members were saddened to receive the resignation of John Pegg, who over many years has made an outstanding contribution to the Parish Council as Chair, Vice Chair and in other roles, not least his involvement with planning, most recently around the Green Acres Development, and his hard work and leadership in formulating the Alrewas Neighbourhood Plan.

A resident of Micklehome Drive bought Councillors’ attention the problem of vehicles driving the wrong way up the one way exit from the A38 into Micklehome Drive. It seems to be predominantly the  residents on the new development who turn left onto the A38 rather than going the correct route around the village, facing drivers head on coming off the A38 slip road. The Parish Council will request Crest Nicholson notify residents of the correct route and request Staffordshire County Council to lay clearer road markings

• Following a summer of cancelled events in the village there is a lot happening over the coming month to make up for it.

On Bank Holiday Monday Alrewas Cricket Club are honoured to have been selected to host the final of the prestigious Marston's Smooth Trophy and are even more delighted that the Alrewas 1st XI team have reached the final themselves, making it an exceptional day for the Club. Spectators are welcome, the bar will be open and Alrewas and Fradley Charities will be serving up a hog roast, kindly sponsored by Coates Butchers.

• To make up for not being able to enjoy an Alrewas Show or the Alrewas Arts Festival the committees of these events have organised an Alrewas Autumn Gathering.

On Saturday 4th September there will be a mini country show featuring a selection of some of the most popular elements of the Alrewas Show including shires and pony competitions, dog show and dog agility display, vintage tractors, classic cars, trade stands, food stalls and a licensed bar.

It will take place on the Alrewas show field, entry fee is just £1.00 per family or group of up to 6 people, gates are open between 11am and 5pm. Visit for more information.

• The good vibes continued on Sunday 5th September, 11am until 5pm, with an ArtsFest on the Island. Arts Festival inspired activities for all to enjoy for free will include sketch-up using charcoal made on the Island, All Things Willow, yoga, environment related exhibitors, woodworking, Archive chats and craft stalls. There will be live music, bar and food, or you can bring your own picnic. This is a great opportunity to see the fantastic work that has been happening on Alrewas Island and to find out more about plans for its community use in the future.

Please note this is a village event and there will be no parking available

• Also on Sunday 5th September is the Annual Ladies 6-a-side Cricket Competition, a fun event for girls and ladies of all abilities, or none at all, to play cricket for the coveted Penny Lawson Trophy and raise money for Cancer Research UK, a charity even closer to their hearts this year following the death last year of past Chairman and Penny’s husband Andie Oliver
