Village News 22nd April 2021

• Now that restrictions are beginning to ease the Trustees of Alrewas and Fradley Charities want to say a very big thank you to everyone who has supported the Charity, and to everyone who has done so much to help all those in our community who have been affected by Covid. So many people have done so much in so many ways, including knitting, sewing, cooking, baking, jam making, plant selling as well as befriending, running errands and organising and it has been wonderful to see.

The Charity has been overwhelmed by the number of donations they have received, now approaching £10,000, much of which has been passed on to the Help Teams in Alrewas and Fradley and to other groups in need of financial assistance. They are still in a position to help any individual or group in need resulting from the Pandemic, so please help spread the word.

On 9th May there will be another Table Top Sale, with over 30 Tables around the village, raising money for the Charity, and there will be an AFC table outside 156 Main Street from 12 - 2 pm. If you have any quality items you no longer need and are happy to donate or help, please get in touch.

• At the Parish Council meeting Elizabeth Lawler was co-opted on as the new Councillor, following the resignation of Jan Altham.

Transport for Britain has contacted the Parish Council and District Cllrs to discuss plans for a bridge over, or a tunnel under, the A38. They were also interested in supporting a bid for the railway station at Alrewas which would also serve the NMA.

The damage caused to the war memorial railings by a lorry trying to turn around in front of the Pharmacy was reported to the police who will contact the owner of the vehicle as the driver did not stop to report the incident.

A bin survey has been completed by Cllr Wilcox. Most bins seemed to be in the correct location and generally there were an adequate number of bins to serve the village. However, the bin on the towpath near the Delhi Divan has been damaged beyond repair so a new joint rubbish and dog waste bin will be placed there, as well as a new one at the gate on the towpath near All Saint’s Bowling Club.

• Crest Nicholson have been carrying out exploratory work that could effectively destroy ‘the beach’, a much loved spot along the river visited by many walkers. There is still a possibility of stopping it if enough people write in to Lichfield District Council and object. You can email quoting the planning application reference number 20/00359/FULM and 18/01491/FULM and marked for the attention of the case officer, Ray Deans.

• Organised group walking is now allowed without being subject to the rule of six, provided track and trace information is collected, so the Alrewas walking group has now restarted and meet every Tuesday at the war memorial at 10:40 am.
