Village News 18th March 2021

• The Alrewas Coronavirus Help Team was set up a year ago and volunteers have been supporting over 35 people consistently throughout the year as well as distributing food boxes, essentials and treats to many more, initially because of problems accessing food supplies and more recently for mental support as the lockdown has dragged on.

Our road out of lockdown starts on 29th March and volunteers feel the service has now run its course therefore the Alrewas Surgery PPG coordinators, who have kept it going, we be stepping down at the end of March and the helpline will no longer be active.

However it’s not over yet for many and if you know anyone in need of financial help please contact Alrewas and Fradley Charities on 01283 790085 or email info@alrewasandfradleycharities.org.uk

• The village litter picks organised by KAT (Keep Alrewas Tidy) have re started and the first one will be this Saturday 20th March. They will then take place the third Saturday of every other month. If you can spare a couple of hours please meet outside the Surgery at 10am. All equipment will be provided and there will be a free hot drink at the Bank Coffeehouse afterwards.

Whilst the organised litter picks have been on hold a few villagers have been borrowing the equipment and going out in their own time to pick up litter around the village and have done a really marvellous job

• At the Parish Council meeting concern was once again raised that the drainage and flooding issues on the Dark Lane development were still not being satisfactorily addressed by Crest Nicholson, and more seriously the major gas pipe running across the site which would have devastating consequences for the village if it were to be hit. The Parish Council continues to press for action by Lichfield District Council’s Enforcement Officer.

Staffordshire County Council have confirmed that the Planning Committee meeting in April that will decide the outcome of the application by Cemex for the quarry and concrete factory at Orgreave has been postponed until June

Following the increased dog fouling in the village Councillor Wilcox is to undertake a survey of dog bins to assess if more are needed

It was agreed that the Parish Assembly, held annually in April, will be moved to September and the Annual Meeting in May will be held via Zoom. Meetings from June will resume in the village hall the second Monday of every month. The next Parish Council meeting is on 12th April. Members of the public should contact the clerk if they wish to observe the meeting via Zoom.
