Village News 5th November 2020

• Due to the current situation there will be no Remembrance Day procession this weekend. There will be a small gathering on the 8th and the 11th November around 11am which will be attended only by clergy and RBL representatives. The Royal British Legion are inviting individuals, on behalf of organisations, to lay their wreaths on the plinth at Alrewas Memorial between 7th and 11th November as there will not be a wreath laying ceremony as normal.

• The Coltech Foundation managed to win one of the famous Burton Swans at the Richard Winterton auction last week with the help of kind donations from Club and Corporate Wear Ltd, The Bank Coffeehouse, the Crown Inn, Mr and Mrs Bancroft, Alison Jerram and Melanie Holland. All proceeds from the auction have been given to Burton YMCA. Swan ‘Shoal’ will be displayed in the centre of the village for all to see before she goes into storage for winter and installed permanently on Alrewas Island in Spring.

The Coltech Foundation has been set up as a not for profit organisation in order to access grants and funding to enable them to carry out essential work and design the Island to maximise experiences for all age groups. They will be working alongside the Trent Valley Trust as part of the Renovation, Preservation and River Heritage Development and liasing with Staffordshire County Council with a view to offering the use of the Island to small groups of children and young people for outdoor pursuits and an outdoor education Centre. A fishing and remote control boat club has already been set up, email for details

• If you know anyone who lives alone needs help with shopping, collecting prescriptions, getting books from the library or would simply appreciate a chat the Village Coronavirus Help Team is still here, with volunteers now organised by Alrewas Surgery Patient Participation Group. For information or support email or call the Helpline: 0330 133 2160.

And if you know anyone who could use some help feeding the family or themselves during this difficult time food vouchers are available from Alrewas and Fradley Charities. Financial help can also be given. All requests are in the strictest confidence, just contact them through the website

The Charity has recently given funds to the schools in Alrewas and Fradley and to Alrewas Scouts to help with extra cleaning and costs associated with the pandemic.
