Village News 23rd July 2020

• At the Parish Council meeting on 20th July, a report on work against the Cemex application concrete plant at Orgreave was noted. Staffordshire County Council has received over 500 objections and an extension had been granted until 7th August for further objections. There was strong support to delay the planning decision until an open meeting could be held by SCC and not have the decision made by a Zoom meeting. Stafford Showground is being considered. A Freedom of Information letter has been sent to HS2 to request the link between the concrete works and the HS2 project.

Concerns have been raised about traffic flow issues on Micklehome Drive. Staffordshire Police has been receiving calls from concerned residents that people attending the new show homes on Green Acres are going the wrong way up Micklehome back to A38. The Site Manager has ordered new signage but the Parish Council will also request official directional signage from County Highways. The removal of trees on the Dark Lane footpath had also caused concern adding to general concerns that Lichfield District Council and the County Council are not consulting Alrewas Parish Council over any changes to plans. This will be addressed.

County Councillor Eagland reported that plans were in place to re-open the mobile libraries again soon.

There was a complaint over noise from dirt bikes on a field near the Show Field but as it is private land and is in Fradley Parish Council’s area there is little that can be done other than talk to the owner.

There has been a lot of antisocial behaviour at the MUGA reported recently, particularly in connection with large groups of youths gathering. It was resolved to install a solar powered light as a deterrent in the first instance but residents are urged to report incidents to the Police on 101, or by messaging them on the Staffordshire Police Facebook page or online through their website.

The next Parish Council meeting will be held on Monday 17th August via Zoom. Residents can attend the meeting by emailing to obtain joining details.

• A reminder to residents that masks must now be worn in the Co-op, butchers, pharmacy and  for takeaways, other than the coffeehouse where you order from outside.

• Some eating establishments in the village will have registered for the Eat Out to Help Out scheme next month where customers will get 50% off all food and non-alcoholic drinks every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in August. Check their Facebook pages for details.

• There is a village Table Top Sale this Sunday 26th July 10am until 2pm. Around 15 houses will have items for sale outside, including Oakfield Road on the alleyway between the school and Wellfield Road, all along Main Street, Chaseview Road by the park, William IV road, Furlong Lane, Micklehome Drive, Dark Lane, and there will be jams, honey and candles on Mill End Lane. Sellers will be donating to Alrewas and Fradley Charities.

Please observe social distancing, there may be a limit on the number of people browsing and hand sanitizer and gloves will be made available.
