Village News 23rd April 2020

• The Alrewas Coronavirus Help Team continue to do a fantastic job in the village with a management team of four volunteer coordinators, 11 call handlers, a ‘Food Glorious Food’ team of five, as well as a food bank, links to village groups, and most important 60 volunteers providing chat, shopping, help with schooling and finance queries.

The Group would like to thank the many local businesses, community groups and individuals who have given their support or donated money or food. Although the group is invaluable, so many people are quietly going about helping friends and neighbours on a daily basis; cooking and sharing meals, checking in, dropping gifts and generally being kind. Go to the website alrewas-covid.weebly.com for all the information you need, including where to buy food to avoid the supermarkets, or call 0330 1332 106 for help.
• The Revd John Allan gave a heart warming address for Easter from the grounds of the church last week and continues to offer a comforting message and uplifting song every week virtually via the All Saint’s Church, Alrewas Facebook page.
 • An active and influential member of the Alrewas community, Roger Hailwood, has passed away. He was a keen village historian, writing many historic pieces, publishing ‘A History of Alrewas’, being instrumental in naming many of the new roads in the village and passing on his knowledge to schools and community groups. He was a Parish Councillor for many years, a school governor at All Saint’s School and an active member of the Alrewas Arts Festival committee. He will be sadly missed. His book is still available for sale in The Bank Coffeehouse.

 •  Alrewas and Fradley Charities wish to thank everyone who has responded to their Coronavirus Appeal, over £5000 has been donated. They have a new website www.alrewasandfradleycharities.org.uk with thanks to Kevin Wilkinson of Spectrum Web Products who has set it up entirely free of charge. Here you will find links to make a donation, join their Monthly Magic Numbers draw and get a pro-forma to request urgent financial assistance. Do continue the great tradition of supporting those less fortunate in our villages, a tradition started by one William Turton in his will dated "before 26 May 1692"
• The requirement to have a Parish Council Annual Meeting in May has been removed due to the Coronavirus situation and appointments for this year, including Chair, Vice Chair and working group chairs, will be carried over to next year. There is an informative Coronavirus news section on the Parish Council website with details of advice, help and support available and schemes within the district.

• The Alrewas Arts Festival has been postponed but plans and activities are continuing towards a fabulous event next year. In the meantime the committee urge you to keep working on your Blue and White crafts, your talks and your films for the Film Festival, planning your workshops, creating your art and taking your photos for the exhibitions.
