Village News 19th March 2020

• Alrewas Cricket Club will be open from 6.00pm to 9.00pm on Friday 3rd April for a pre-season get together and anyone, children from age 6 years up to adults, are welcome to drop in if they are interested in playing cricket this year. Newcomers are very welcome. Committee members, team captains and junior managers will be present so this will be an ideal opportunity to return membership forms, pay subs, or ask any questions. Drop in or stay for as long as you like. Clean Hit Cricket will also be setting up a pop-up shop so you can buy any cricket equipment you need for the new season. The bar will be open.

• The Annual Fun Auction this Saturday organised by the Arts Festival committee to raise funds for this year’s festival in August has been cancelled in line with government advice not to proceed with events of over 50 people.

• Yoxall Dementia Friends are inviting residents of Alrewas and surrounding villages to an informal gathering on Sunday 19th April 12 noon to 2.30pm in Yoxall Village Hall for people living with dementia, their carers and those who are interested in learning more about dementia. There will be keynote speakers, opportunities for discussion and a chance to chat to Yoxall’s Dementia Champions. Entertainment will be provided by our very own Alrewas African Choir and there’s also a free buffet lunch. Tickets are free but for catering purposes they must be applied for by March 27th to Lorna Lewis from Alrewas Surgery Patient Group on 01283 790799 or email alrewas.ppg@nhs.net

• The Alrewas Colts U12s, current year 7’s, are looking for new players as they move to playing 11 aside next season. They play in the Burton Junior Football League, currently in division 1 with matches on Sundays and training on Tuesday evenings. Contact Michael Collins or Alan Pallet for more details. Anyone is welcome to come along to training for a couple of weeks to give it a try first.

• They will be cutting back Pussy Willow and Green Willow on Alrewas Island, just over the Bailey Bridge by the Millstream from 2pm till 6:30pm. If anybody wants any branches to make decorative garden features or to replant to create new trees just pop down in your wellies as it is muddy.

• There has been an increase in keyless vehicle theft again across Staffordshire. Thieves are using sophisticated technology to remotely intercept the fob signal allowing them entry and the ability to drive away keyless vehicles without actually possessing the keys. Signal blocking pouches can be used to protect your keys from remote access, reducing the likelihood of your vehicle being targeted. These are available online and from high street motoring stores.
