Village News 30th January 2020

• Alrewas Dramatic Society performed ‘Camelot the Panto’ to packed audiences last week and it was a resounding success. Brian Trappett as the Dame, Jane Gravells and Rachel Fox gave excellent comic performances as always, but it was also good to see some younger members given the chance to shine in lead roles. One particular very small girl will be one to watch in the future. The costumes and set were exceptional as usual and everything was just as a proper pantomime should be.

The Society have been putting on productions in the village hall since 1957 ranging from serious dramas which they do so well, to comic plays with the audience in stitches. We look forward to another production later this year.

• Alrewas Arts Festival committee are hosting their annual Fun Auction on Saturday 21st March in the Village Hall. Viewing is from 7pm and the auction starts at 7.30pm. The bar will be open and there have been loads of donations so far so there will be lots of bargains to be had.

• The monthly Pop-In at the Bank Coffeehouse is next Wednesday 5th February between 9 and 10.30am.  The get-together, organised by the Alrewas Surgery Patient Participation Group, has grown in numbers throughout the year and they’ve even compiled a list of ‘What’s on in Alrewas’ so you can find out just how much there is to do in the village as well as have a chat and a laugh. Everyone is welcome.

• Consultation on the Lichfield Local Plan, which shapes the District Council plans for development in the area up to 2036, has now closed. The Parish Council has sent in their comments which include proposals to work with other agencies to reduce the speed limit on the A38 between Streethay and Burton using average speed cameras; not to make the core village of Alrewas the location for any further major housing developments; ensure the protection of open spaces and planting of more trees and flowers; and for LDC to be more rigorous with planning applications within the conservation area.
